The South Tyrolean wine museum is situated in the oldest wine region of the German-speaking wine region, and in the second largest wine-growing municipality in South Tyrol: Caldaro al Lago. Italy’s oldest wine museum is housed in the former private winery Di Pauli in the centre of the wine village. The exhibition provides witness to a thousand-year old cultural history and wine tradition: Grape presses, pretty, decorated wine barrels, instruments used for wine making, drinking and carrying vessels - the large number of exhibits testifies to the history and the importance of wine. Interesting and amusing details, such as the role of the Saltner, a man employed to protect against the theft of grapes, and the story of the cellar ghost, are also explained. The wine museum also has a deep cellar, its own small vineyard, a notable groined vault dating back to the 17th century in the Torgl room, the room that used to house the wine press, and lancet doors set in stone..

With children to the wine museum
Children also enjoy a visit to the wine museum. They are fascinated by the Saltner, a man employed to protect against the theft of grapes, and the cellar ghost and enjoy the films showing the work of the cooper. Climbing down into the deep cellar is a real experience, as is the grape tasting in the vineyard in autumn: ripe grapes from the vine directly to the mouth. With the exception of the deep cellar, the wine museum can be accessed with a pushchair.
